The one year record

Post by Steve » Wed Mar 11, 2015 2:06 pm

Steven Abraham is taking on one of the biggest challenges in cycling history, the one year record.

The current record was set in 1939 by Tommy Godwin, who cycled 75065 miles in a year, or just over 205 miles a day. Every day.

Read about Tommy here, Tommy Godwin.

Steven is doing a similar thing, using a steel framed Raleigh bike on the roads of the UK and he started on new years day. Read about it on his site One year time trial.

I for one wish him the best of luck, cycling 50 miles in a day used to leave me crippled, this guy will be doing more than four times that, every day for a year.

At approximately 8.10am on the 29th March Steve was involved in an accident. He was hit from behind by a suspected drunk motorcyclist. He did attempt to carry on, but was forced to stop after a further 30 miles.

His support team collected him and took him to hospital, where it was found he sustained two broken bones in his ankle. He had the ankle put into plaster.

On April the first Steve underwent an operation to insert metal plates and screws in his ankle and spent a few nights in the hospital. He came out of hospital on the 3rd and went home to recover.

Steve is hoping to carry on with the record, using a recumbrant trike until his ankle heals enough to get back on his bike.
